Columbus, Ohio — Food Logistics, the only publication exclusively dedicated to covering the movement of product through the global food supply chain, has named Zipline Logistics to the Top Green Providers list for 2019. This is the third time the expert 3PL firm has been awarded.
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants.
For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measurable reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.
“We continually look for new ways to reduce emissions for our customers while cutting their transportation spend,” said Walter Lynch, Zipline Logistics’ CEO. “It’s part of our operational philosophy to integrate advanced technological applications that allow us to offer our customers logistics solutions that accomplish both.”
As transportation costs and compliance requirements, from retailers like Walmart and Kroger continue to rise, consolidation solutions are growing in necessity.
Zipline Logistics helps food and beverage customers reconfigure production schedules, remap delivery routes, reschedule pickup and delivery times, and alter due dates to successfully consolidate orders and cut total miles traveled.
This includes mode optimization— using rail instead of truck to reduce miles and trucks on the road; consolidation— combining multiple LTL orders into a single full truckload; and route optimization— cutting down travel miles and facilitating better pick-up and delivery schedules for drivers.
“Our Top Green Providers demonstrate leadership in sustainability throughout the global food supply chain, from better management of natural resources to technology applications and operational improvements that reduce food waste from the farm to the retailer to the end consumer,” notes Lara L. Sowinski, editorial director. “Environmental stewardship is a defining feature for these companies, as is their determination to continually raise the sustainability bar year after year.”
The Columbus-based 3PL is proud to receive the distinguished award and continues to work towards a more sustainable transportation industry by searching for new ways to improve environmentally conscious efforts.
